12 Ryan Lanji - People Pleasing
Tuesday Nov 26, 2019
Tuesday Nov 26, 2019
People pleasing is a big issue for many people and I know that was a huge part of what led to my break down. Feeling like I could never say no to anyone and that I had to keep everyone happy was a real issue so I was over the moon when Ryan said he would love to discuss people pleasing for his episode.
Ryan Lanji is a Fashion & Art Curator, his curatorial direction on shows, PR events, collaborations and launches have led to global recognition in fashion and art alike, bringing together some of the biggest names across the industry, including Nick Knight, Gilbert & George, Vidal Sassoon and Mary Katrantzou. More recently curating 'Conservation Couture: The Animal Ball Collection' at the V&A Museum, it featured over forty fashion houses including Chloe, Burberry, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Thierry Mugler. Alongside his work in fashion and art he is the Cultural Producer of Hungama, East London’s Queer Bollywood hip hop night. Hungama translates to 'chaos' and although Ryan’s music selection may be chaotic, he wanted to create the exact opposite… a safe space allowing queer South Asian people the chance for their culture and sexuality to seamlessly co-exist within a club night.
During this installment of #tiwik we seem to cover a lot! From coming out to parents who at the time didn’t understand, to dropping out of school to follow your dreams. We discuss chance encounters and how they can change the direction of your life and how pleasing our parents can lead to never fully actualising who we are at our core. The conversation drifts through community and music, to juggling multiple projects and skills where you’re expected to be everything to everyone, to working for free to create and build your dream. We chat cancelling your diary to create space, the fear of loss, rejection and hiding from people in the cinema just to get some peace! “Everytime you people please you lose a bit of yourself.” so hopefully through listening to this episode you can gain a bit of yourself back.

11 Francesca Oddie - Astrology
Tuesday Nov 19, 2019
Tuesday Nov 19, 2019
The first time I met Francesca Oddie, I think we talked enthusiastically for about 2 hours about energy, the moon, the stars and planets and everything in between. I LOVE this woman's energy!
Fran is a passionate (she says obsessive) astrologer who really goes into the depths of astrology as a fascinating science. Her quest is to present the subject simply and to enable people to comprehend the reliable roots of astrology and this seems to have been the case since she saw the word Sagittarius at age 5.
During this episode we discuss how Francesca got into astrology, palmistry and numerology, segueing through dating scorpios, how astrology works and how we might be able to use it to guide our lives. We go into using asteroids in charts and whether you can read someone’s chart ‘wrong’ as well as the risk of projecting onto clients and how we use and build our intuition.

10 Darren Springer - Magic Mushrooms
Tuesday Nov 12, 2019
Tuesday Nov 12, 2019
Darren Springer is a teacher, researcher and qualified organic horticulturist. By day he teaches organic gardening and food enterprise to “so called” hard to reach young people, in particular those who have been temporarily or permanently excluded from mainstream school. Darren is part of the Breaking Convention committee and works closely with Funzing, organising thought provoking talks and workshops around the subjects of Mushroom cultivation, psychedelic experiences and unearthing ancient buried knowledge from African-Caribbean history, culture and spirituality.
During this episode Darren and I discuss how we connected many years ago through a mutual love of art. We discuss seeds as currency, the power of nature as medicine, the potential application of psychedelics and entheogenic plants for mental health treatment and whether these psychoactive substances can help people to access and deal with their emotional baggage. Collectively Darrens work aims to inform and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to cope with social challenges and contribute to community development as well as self-improvement in an innovative, creative, culturally-aware style and I think that really comes through on this episode.

Tuesday Oct 29, 2019
Scott, also known as AKA Proud and Sober (Was The Boy Who Drank Too Much when this was recorded), is a sober activist and LGBTQI+ advocate and this week I’m talking to him about all things sobriety. At just over one year sober, Scott’s mission is to support others in their journey to sobriety and be of value to the LGBTQI+ community. We discuss everything from self medicating to when drinking gets too much, through to whether sobriety affects friendships and how to deal with your emotions when you get sober. Essentially we let you know what happens when you remove alcohol from your life for good and have to mourn the death of drinking you and embrace the sober you underneath.

07 Sarah Ross - Burnout
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
This week I am speaking with Sarah Ross, a burnout recovery expert who helps executives and entrepreneurs reset, recharge and thrive after burnout using the Burnout Freedom Formula. We discuss how an acting coach completely changed the whole direction of her life and how an experience in a children's cancer ward literally saved her life.
This episode gets deep!
We discuss the risks of becoming a corporate junkie which leads to exhaustion and feeling like you can’t cope. Feeling alone and not having anyone to turn too and eventually, setting an expiry date and creating a bucket list to tick off before you go. There’s some real nuggets of wisdom in here not least when she says “The thinking that gets you into a problem, can’t get you out of it.” and we share tools and our shared experience of burnout and our collective recovery.

Samantha Houghton describes herself as a trauma thriver, book lover and coffee drinker. Maybe this is why we had so much to talk about? 05 Ruby Warrington - Sober Curiosity
Tuesday Oct 08, 2019
Tuesday Oct 08, 2019
This week I am talking to the inspiring Ruby Warrington. Ruby is a British writer, author and thought-leader currently located in Brooklyn, NY. Formerly Features Editor on the UK Sunday Times Style supplement, she is Founder of Now Age lifestyle platform The Numinous, and co-founder of “sober curious” events series Club SÖDA NYC. Her two books, Material Girl, Mystical World: The Now Age Guide to a High Vibe Life, and Sober Curious: The Blissful Sleep, Laser Focus, Limitless Presence, and Deep Connection Awaiting Us All on the Other Side of Alcohol, are both published by HarperCollins and if that wasn’t enough, she also launched The Numinous Astro Deck, an astrology learning tool and oracle deck back in June 2019. Ruby is also the host of popular podcasts The Now Age and Sober Curious (the latter of which I cry on when she interviewed me - I had a podcast vulnerability hangover but apparently it was podcast gold :-))
In this episode we discuss:
What was the thinking behind the term “Sober Curious”?
Hangovers
The impact of drinking
Spirituality and Sobriety - what are the links?
Creativity and sobriety
The wilderness of sobriety…. And how to overcome it.
